Auxiliary - Position - Classroom Aide - Elementary
Position Title: Prekindergarten/Head Start Teaching Assistant
Location: Victoria Head Start
Salary Range: $10.50-$15.50 to commensurate experience
Length of Work Year: 187 days (At-Will Contract)
We are looking for a highly motivated educator with a passion for assisting teachers in our Head Start Prekindergarten Classrooms.
High School Diploma
Completed or in progress CDA.
Must be able to serve and effectively communicate, to the extent feasible, with children and families with no or limited English proficiency.
Working knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
Ability to work effectively without extensive supervision.
Ability to function with diplomacy and tact.
Handle all children's information with utmost confidentiality.
Report suspected child abuse/neglect to immediate supervisor and appropriate agency.
Abide by all Prekindergarten/Head Start and BCFS policies and procedures.
Abide by OHS regulations and standards.
Ability to work as a team player.
Must have reliable transportation.
Teacher Aide is responsible for assisting teachers in the education and daily program of the classroom and in the implementation and coordination of all Prekindergarten/Head Start functions.
Advocate for young children and their families.
Identify, report and provide supportive services in child abuse/neglect cases, notifying immediate supervisor and appropriate agency.
Assist with each of the two home visits per child within the school term.
Assist in the implementation of lesson plans.
Maintain a cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher, volunteers, parents, and program specialists in planning and implementing activities.
Assist teacher to implement the developmental assessment for each child to determine the child's strengths and areas in which each child may need help.
Assist the teacher in a Head Start preschool setting, which provides a comprehensive program to meet educational, emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs of children.
Ensure all children receive individual attention.
Be in the classroom before children arrive each morning, unless designated by supervisor to another duty.
Assist the teacher in planning and maintaining a safe, clean, learning environment and in assuring the well-being and safety of the children in care.
Assist with child assessments and screenings.
Report illness or accidents to the Principal/Center Coordinator/Sr. Program Director.
Attend workshops, conferences and all in-service trainings. Participate in professional development activities. Maintain training hours and documentation as required.
Acquire and maintain up-to-date training/certification in CPR and First Aid.
Assist with transportation duties including staff/child ratio, discipline and safety, if transportation is provided.
